land ownership
Under the royal rule of the colony of Georgia the Georgia settlers could buy and sell land they could own up to 200 acres per person. not just that not only men could own land the women could inherit it as well. As a royal colony the plantations along the bank of the river started to develop also they would grow rice and tobacco making it a good money source.
slavery
When the Georgia colony first started blacks were banned in fear of slavery. When the royal colony came slavery became the most important part of Georgia's economy. slavery was allowed because it was demanded by two people named Patrick Tailfer and Thomas Stephens. them and their group of supporters bombarded the trustees with letters and petitions demanding that slavery be allowed in Georgia. It was a long process but eventually the trustees excepted slavery into the colony of Georgia.
government
as a royal colony everything started changing they brought in new governors. There names were john reynolds, henry ellis, and James wright which all had hard times but James wright showed bravery and was probably the strongest of the three. they got a new provost marshall named harry hill had a long and interesting career interspersed with periods of law enforcement duties. Although it was his dream to incorporate military police duties into the Army, the Military Police Corps did not come into being until long after the death of Major General Bandholtz. they also got a new attorney general, legislature, council, and court appeals. they all had two representatives from each parish. it was a big change that they went through and changed Georgia as a colony forever.
royal governors
- John Reynolds He volunteered service in the british navy it didn't move up in his career very fast but steadily made a lot of progression. He soon in the navy became a leader then in 1754 was appointed to the royal governor of Georgia. he and the the legislature never really did get along so when the king had more power he made his decision and eliminated him from the governor.
- Henry Ellis wasn't a bad governor he was very smart offered a job as a ship navigator after learning the science of navigation. he was known as the second founder of the colony Georgia and also Taught the colony to govern itself set budgets, raised taxes, provided for military defense of the colony. had to leave governor of Georgia due to his unstable health.
- James Wright born in London England came to south Carolina when his dad was given the opportunity to become chief justice. was always working as a high ranking official in south Carolina practicing law when in 1760 was appointed the third royal governor of Georgia. he Negotiated treaties with the Indians opening up millions of acres of land for the colonist. Georgia grew faster than any other colony under Wright. was by far the best royal governor of Georgia throughout its time.
