charter of 1732
The Charter of 1732 was created by the trustees. The purpose of the charter was to keep the colony of Georgia under control because it was a social experiment. they charter had rules no catholics, no blacks in fear of slavery starting, no liquor, and the colonists must grow mulberry trees because silk worms ate their leaves and England wanted to make silk. No lawyers because they wanted the colonists to settle their problems one on one instead of in court and a land limit of 500 acres.
tomochichi
Tomochichi was the chief of the yamacraw indians. He helped create peace between the early Georgia settlers and the yamacraw indians. He was a creek indian and got in on activities with the englishmen in south Carolina in 1732 he created his own tribe because he an his old tribe got into a disagreement. He and his group of 200 people settled on the banks of the savannah river the reason for that was because the area was the place were his ancestors died and was close to english traders.
reasons for settlement
the first reason was charity Georgia was known to be a place were the english would send their prisoners. they would give them some land but most all land was being owned at the time by proprietors. to help send the prisoners over to Georgia the english would pay for the debtors instead of paying for prison. They thought that if they got rid of the debtors it would help the economy of England which made the americas think they were going to produce milk and wine and send it to England. the second reason was economics at this time the population was increasing at a rapid rate and the lack of economic oppurtunities made many people come to the americas. they created mercantilism and the main goal was to increase the amount of money by creating balanced trade. The americas produced silk, wines, and spices to help England with its economy. the final reason was defense England thought we can take Georgia and use it as a defense buffer because at the time english and french were fighting. so the thought that they owned south Carolina they would have to go through Georgia and then the mississippian river to get to the english was great protection.
