hernando de soto
Hernando desoto was the first European explorer to find and be on Georgia. He is held accountable for killing and starving a lot of native americans in search of god, glory, and gold. The diseases him and his men had contracted for example influenza and small pox made huge population loss and was the reason the mississippian period ended. quick after sotos death the spanish and french came to Georgia to explore the area. they both tried to come to build colonies bot neither of them could make it work. One of the most successful was the mississippian period. this is where they set up churches along the barrier island and inside of Georgia. the reasoning for that was to try an convert the natives to christianity. the conversations help bring native american cultures into spanish political and economic system.
